How was olive oil traditionally produced?

Elia project will guide you to the processing techniques of olives through two new applications. By using virtual reality, the apps reveal the stages of olive oil production as they took place on the island of Lesvos. The realistic representation of a pre-industrial oil mill and a steam-powered olive mill will transport you in the not-too-distant past.

To achieve an accurate depiction of the timeless olive oil production techniques, the research team of the Laboratory of Image, Sound and Cultural Representation created interactive audiovisual material and original 3d models. To accomplish the user’s best possible experience, a virtual guide was made with the option to communicate in 5 different languages (Greek, English, German, French and Turkish).

The project is commissioned by the University of the Aegean with co-financing from the EU.
