An Event Honouring the Memory of the Anti-Dictatorship Resistance
The project "Democracy and Freedom: Digital Museum of European Solidarity in Greece (1967–1974)", for which diadrasis was responsible for the design and development of the Digital Museum and its interactive applications, was officially presented on 21 July 2026 during a special event organized by the Archives of Contemporary Social History (ASKI) at the SFEA premises (Freedom Park, former EAT-ESA) in Athens.
The event marked the first public presentation of the research programme, highlighting the extensive work undertaken to document and showcase European solidarity with Greece during the military dictatorship (1967–1974). Researchers and academic collaborators presented the project's individual thematic areas, emphasizing the richness of the archival collections and the importance of digital documentation in preserving and disseminating historical memory.
The presentation reaffirmed the significant role that digital technologies can play in safeguarding, interpreting, and communicating cultural heritage. For diadrasis, the project represents another milestone in leveraging digital design and interactive technologies to transform historical research into an engaging and accessible learning experience for diverse audiences.
A Digital Museum for Memory and Democracy
The project was implemented during 2023–2024 on behalf of the Archives of Contemporary Social History (ASKI), in collaboration with infoLib and Scripta, with the aim of digitizing, documenting, and promoting more than 100,000 archival records, photographs, and printed publications that document the international network of anti-dictatorship resistance and solidarity with the Greek people.
diadrasis developed the Digital Museum together with a comprehensive suite of web and mobile applications, transforming this valuable archival material into a modern, interactive experience of exploration and learning.
Visitors to the Digital Museum can explore its content through a range of digital experiences, including:
- Digital Repository, featuring more than 100,000 documented archival records and images.
- Interactive Timeline, presenting the key events of resistance and international solidarity during the period 1967–1974.
- Interactive Map, visualizing the pan-European network of anti-dictatorship activism through geospatial data.
- Temporary Exhibitions, showcasing posters, photographs, and archival documents of exceptional historical and artistic significance.
- Digital Walking Tour, transforming the city of Athens into an interactive journey through landmarks of the anti-dictatorship movement, enriched with original archival material connected to each location.
