Digital Transformation of the Municipality of Kavala
The project “Digital Transformation of the Municipality of Kavala” is part of the digitalization of local cultural heritage and focuses on the development of modern digital applications aimed at highlighting the history, monuments, and cultural identity of the city. Through the use of advanced technologies, the project creates new ways for citizens and visitors to access and interact with Kavala’s historical heritage, transforming cultural information into an immersive and participatory experience.
The digital experience focuses on the historical journey of the city highlighting key milestones in Kavala’s social, economic, and cultural development. Through interactive applications, 3D reconstructions, and augmented and virtual reality environments, users will have the opportunity to explore different aspects of life in the city, from architecture and monuments to everyday life, commerce, art, and human activities that shaped its contemporary identity.
diadrasis participates in the implementation of the project as a subcontractor within the framework of the “Digitization of Local Cultural Heritage” deliverable, undertaking the development of the digital applications and content that support the new cultural exploration experience.
The project is currently under development, and this page will be progressively updated with new material and content produced throughout the implementation process.

Deliverables

Interactive Game
The interactive game functions as an educational and entertaining tool that brings students, residents, and visitors into contact with the history and cultural heritage of the city. Through an interactive storytelling mechanism, users will explore historical events, monuments, and different aspects of human activity, including art, commerce, everyday life, and social transformations.
The application will incorporate gamification elements, encouraging active participation and experiential learning, while creating a contemporary way for younger generations to connect with the history and identity of their city.
Interactive Timeline
The interactive timeline serves as a digital narrative of Kavala’s historical journey, structured around significant milestones and events that shaped the evolution of the city. Through an intuitive digital environment, visitors will be able to navigate through time and discover stories, people, and events connected to the social, economic, and cultural development of the region.
The visualization of historical information enables a more direct and accessible approach to the past, creating a dynamic exploration experience that combines historical documentation with the possibilities of digital storytelling.

3D Reconstructions
As part of the project, 40 three-dimensional reconstructions of sites of historical interest in Kavala will be created, aiming at the digital documentation and promotion of the city’s architectural and cultural heritage.
The 3D models will serve as the foundation for the development of modern augmented reality applications, allowing users to explore monuments and historical locations through a new, interactive approach. Through digital reconstruction, elements of the past will regain a presence within the contemporary urban landscape, strengthening the visitor’s connection with the history of the city.
AR & VR Experiences
The augmented and virtual reality applications will be designed to offer an immersive exploration experience of Kavala’s history and cultural landscape. Through AR and VR technologies, visitors will be able to digitally travel through different historical periods and discover monuments, locations, and stories through an interactive perspective.
The virtual experience will utilize 3D models, digital reconstructions, and narrative elements, creating an experience that combines education, exploration, and entertainment. In this way, Kavala’s cultural heritage will become accessible to a wider audience, offering new opportunities for understanding and engaging with the city’s history.
