Manolis Noukakis
Exhibition Space Dedicated to the Artist
The project “Cultural Exhibition of the Artistic Production of Manolis Noukakis” was completed in 2025 for the Municipality of Amari, creating a contemporary and innovative exhibition space dedicated to the life and work of artist Manolis Noukakis.
Emmanouil Noukakis, an important sculptor and conservator originating from Kouroutes Amariou in Crete, belonged to Greece’s “Generation of the ’30s.” His life and artistic journey are closely connected with the development of the Greek art scene throughout the 20th century.
The museum hosts the artist’s works and historical archive, alongside works by prominent Greek artists and collaborators such as Tsarouchis, Rallis, Kopsidis, Georgiou, Vourloumis, Saridakis, Spatharis, Papadoperakis, and others.
Diadrasis implemented Section 5: “Interactive Applications and Documentation,” aiming to offer visitors a contemporary and engaging experience of the collection. The project was based on the systematic documentation and digitization of the artist’s collection, highlighting his work through interactive and audiovisual applications that bring the collection closer to the public.
The project is implemented within the framework of the “Rural Development Programme of Greece 2014–2020” and is co-funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and national resources.

Deliverables

As part of the project, 486 collection items were digitized and documented through photography, digital image processing, and the creation of multiple-resolution digital files.
The documentation included detailed metadata for each exhibit, such as cataloguing information, descriptions, dating, materials, dimensions, conservation status, digital assets, and QR Codes.
The documentation system was implemented using a mySQL database and powers the project’s digital repository, website, and navigation applications, while collection management is carried out through the Omeka platform.
The project website was developed in Wordpress using PHP and mySQL technologies. It includes information about the life and work of Manolis Noukakis, the complete collection of exhibits, and presentations of the museum in Kouroutes Amariou.
At the same time, it provides access to the digital repository, multimedia material, and audiovisual content created for the project.

A mobile application was developed to provide interactive navigation through the exhibition, both on-site and remotely. The app offers QR Code navigation, access to museum exhibits and the entire collection, guided exploration of selected objects, access to produced videos, and automatic updates through the digital repository.
The application was designed as a complete digital guide and collection-promotion tool, enhancing the visitor experience and expanding access to cultural content. The app is publicly available through Google Play and is already installed on the museum’s tablets.
As part of the project, 18 short videos were produced using archival material and oral testimonies related to the life and work of Manolis Noukakis.
In parallel, dedicated display software was developed for the tablets used in the exhibition sections. The software was integrated into the navigation application, enabling easier management and updating of the audiovisual content.
